A Knitblogger’s Glossary

with 3 comments

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while – this is something for all of the new knitbloggers out there who have no ideawhat a WIP or a LYS is! Some are not specifically knitting-related but appear in knitblogs a lot, some are knitting-related but not exclusively blog-related, and some are Americanisms that need to be explained to the rest of us (or any other words that confused me)! I will be adding to this over time, so if you have any suggestions do let me know.

frog pond – refers to knitting that has been or will be frogged

Harlot, the – refers to the Yarn Harlot, Stephanie Pearl McPhee, famous knitblogger

KAL – Knitalong, where a group of people (online or real life) all knit the same pattern

LYS – Local Yarn Store

SIP – Sock In Progress

sleeve hell – refers to the tedium of completing the second sleeve of a pair

sweeve – a sleeve knit as the first piece of a garment to test gauge, in place of knitting a proper swatch

TOAD – Trashed Object Abandoned in Disgust

tink – “knit” backwards, refers to the process of “unknitting” to undo knitting and correct a mistake

UFO – Unfinished Object. Refers to a WIP that has been abandoned
